I just recently bought a Saegate 1TB hard drive and backed up all my important stuff on it, was using Windows 7 at the time. After upgrading to Windows 10 my pc is not detecting the drive, it shows at lower right corner that i've plugged it in, it shows in device manager, and disc management. Tried to assign a new path and letter but the options are grayed out and not able to do that either.
Windows cannot use HFS+ (the Mac file system). Mac can not use NTFS (as far as I know), and the lowest common denominator - FAT32 - is not available as an option in the Windows Format Dialog (although I think there are tools to use it as it supports 2 TB Partitions).
So i'm stuck with this brand new hard drive with all my important data with no options of retrieving, formatting or accessing it. Been scouring the internet and forums for a possible solution but to no avail.
Does anyone have a viable fix for this because it's very frustrating. Hi, Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.
Likely cause is an outdated for one of your hardware. Please try below methods and check if it helps.
Method 1: Run hardware troubleshooter and check if it helps. Type Troubleshooting in search box and open it. Click on Hardware and Sound. Click on Hardware and Devices. Follow the instruction. Method 2: Try to update drivers hard disk and chipset and check if it helps. Please refer the section Install drivers using Device Manager from the Wiki Article created by Andre Da Costa (MVP, Community Moderator & Wiki Author).

Ok i have tried all suggestions but unfortunately i didn't fix anything, i actually found out my built in webcam isn't working now either:( 1) Ran troubleshooterHardware and Devices it didn't mention anything about my external drive it just said you webcam doesn't have a driver and it is checked as 'Not fixed' 2) Tried updating the drivers for both the external HDD and the camera it gave me: - For the HDD: 'Windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date'. Webcam: 'Windows could not find driver software for your device':( 3) Troubleshoot compatibility didn't give any results either.
Hi, I have the same problem. Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now the Seagate external hard drive is not properly working.
I've tried all the suggestions with no success. When I connect the drive to the computer, Windows 10 recognizes it for about 5 seconds under 'Device and Printers' under Devices with name 'Backup+ Desk'. While it is recognized, I can double-click on it and see that Driver is 'Seagate Backup+ Desk SCSI Disk Device'. The driver appears to be up to date (6/21/2006). The same behaviour is seen in Device Manager under Disk Drives. Under 'Events', I get this message 'Device SCSI Disk&VenSeagate&ProdBackup+Desk 000000 could not be migrated.'
