You probably don't mind that the millions of us using 10.5.8 will now use your competitions' browsers. Alienating an entire loyal customer base that already use your product is not a very smart way to run your business.
Maybe someday you'll see the error of your ways and continue to support our OS but by that time I'll be using Safari so I won't even care. Can you just do me one small favor? Please don't run any more Chrome commercials on my TV.
Jlc2ay 26/9/2012, 17:46 น. I just started having this issue as well. Luckily I don't need Flash to download Firefox. I have been happily using Chrome on my Mac since before it was officially available (using the nightly builds) and I've felt it was superior to all other browsers. But this problem has single-handedly caused me to go back to Firefox and I have to say that I'm impressed with what they've done while I was gone.
At this point, I'm seriously considering installing Firefox on all of my computers and ditching Chrome since Google obviously doesn't care about its users. Clammtastic 27/9/2012, 21:35 น.

Hi Toni, thank you for that information to make people at least understand what happens. Anyway, please be aware that people still want to continue their current system which implies to not update Mac OS X 10.5.x to a higher version. The currently annoying point is that Chrome continues to pop-up the message telling that the Adobe Flash player is out of date, while the 'Learn More'-link does not provide the information you give here. And the solution proposed by Google to at least disable such messages is to start Chrome with a flag from command line to disable those message. This is as well very unfortunate, because first there maybe would be another important message and second who does want to / can at all do that? I could but I won't.
If you keep that solution, people staying for the time being with Mac OS X 10.5.x will have to switch to another browser. Thank you for your understanding and further help, Stefan javinoct 28/9/2012, 4:52 น. You can write a terminal script that way you just click on the script when you want to open chrome In the Terminal, create a new file: (ignore ') touch executechrome Edit that file: pico executechrome Start off by showing it is a shell script: #!/bin/sh '/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome' -allow-outdated-plugins Save and exit: CTRL-O, CTRL-X Now, make it executable: chmod 755 executechrome Test it:./executechrome In the Finder you can put '.command' at the end of 'executechrome'. If you do that, your script will open the Terminal and run it. Idamo 28/9/2012, 19:23 น. Javinoct - Your first set of directions for the '/Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome' -allow-outdated-plugins worked for me!
But it seems that you would have to paste that into the Terminal every time you wanted to open Chrome. In your most recent post - were you were explaining a method that we could use to create a file we could use to open Chrome with just a click (without the Flash error messages)?
Can you explain your most recent post a little better for those of us who have never used Terminal before? I tried copying and pasting your second set of commands into Terminal, one by one, but it eventually gave me an error message. Bazo85 29/9/2012, 12:24 น.
Those of us with old mac's can work around this problem Go to the Google Chrome.app in the /Applications directory Right click on the app, show package contents. Click the contents folder and open up the info.plist Find the following lines: CFBundleExecutable Google Chrome Replace with: CFBundleExecutable parameterized-app.sh Then using text edit (or the equivalent) make a file with the following content #!/usr/bin/env bash exec /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome -allow-outdated-plugins Save it as parameterized-app.sh inside the Application bundle in the /Contents directory Then go to the terminal and type in cd /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents chmod +x parameterized-app.sh DONE! Now everytime you run chrome it won't bother you about your old out of date flash!! Marek.rodkiewicz 1/10/2012, 1:30 น. Hi, I just want to say how disappointed I am with Google for this decision - from where I stand there doesn't seem to be any rational logic behind it. Chrome worked fine on 10.5.8 and Chrome quickly became mine and many people's browser of choice. Depriving us of Chrome seems completely unfair and utterly insane business sense; are you trying to force us to buy new Apple products or simply flock to your competition?
I really hope Google sees sense in this. It's really frustrating and disappointing not to be able to use Chrome, especially after it was taken to our hearts so well. For what it's worth, it seems to contradict the Google ethos epitomized in your ads of 'The Web Is What You Make It'. It's also very difficult to speak to the right customer service about this. Apologies if you are not the correct source. Thanks, John vida c 2/10/2012, 8:05 น. This is stupid.
Yet another ungrounded decision made by Google. Just like the the shifting of all company resources to Google+. Or the sharp price increases for Google App Engine. Or the acquisition of barely relevant Zagat and Meebo. Mac OS X 10.5 is still a PERFECTLY functional OS and my laptop is still in good condition.
Except that now it can't run Chrome properly. What is this crap?
Well, it's back to my old friend, Firefox. Chrome, I hope you either burn in hell or come to your senses. Maybe reallocate some of those marketing expenses to engineering.
Jasonjim 2/10/2012, 13:06 น. You can permanently disable those nags if you aren't concerned about security. If you have access to Property List Editor, open /Library/Preferences/com.google.Chrome.plist with Property List Editor.app.
Under Key, add an item for AllowOutdatedPlugins. Set the Type to Boolean. Click the checkbox under Value. Save your changes. Problem solved, and it sticks. Can also be accomplished with a good text editor like TextWrangler. Just add AllowOutdatedPlugins after.
Screenshots attached, I hope this helps you. I'm not responsible for your security, so use an antivirus.
Brent Wadden, 14:21 น. I found this on another website - It worked for me: 'sadre macrumors newbie Join Date: Sep 2012 Hey I had the same issue with the same OS version, and the current version of Chrome. To fix this, type in 'chrome: plugins' (don't use spaces on either side of the: I just put them there because the:+P = haha) into the address bar to bring up Chrome prefs, it says 'Flash - Version: 10.3.183.23 Download Critical Security Update' with the new version already installed, click 'disable' on the toggle for Flash. It will go grey (inactive). Try loading youtube or simply this page. It worked for me!
Hope it worked for you.' JonMH 7/11/2012, 16:24 น. It really does work. If you look on his youtube comments, you'll see pages and pages of 'thank you' messages and not a single person said it was a scam (although someone joked about it, which made me laugh). I think that is pretty good reason to download it.
It honestly just did me wonders. My Chrome was never working properly and I was on my wits end until I gave this thing a go. I know the guy's video seems like he would just be hacking into your computer and destroying your life, but it worked 100% for me. (ไม่รู้จัก), 11:10 น. Mr57, 11:24 น.
Toni, I am not asking for a new plug in. But please, is there any way to stop the constant reminders that my flash player is out of date?
I understand that chrome isn't coming out with new updates for my operating system, since is sad, however, if I could only surf the internet without constant reminders of this fact, I would forget quickly. Thank you for your help. Please if there is any way to never see adobe flash player was blocked because it is out of date again that would be awesome. Mr57, 16:03 น. I looked into that modified Flash player posted on Youtube and although it will work, it is meant for PowerPC (PPC) users. It does not make sense for Intel-based Mac users to use it.
Not only are you using a modified player, but also more importantly it is extremely outdated ( v 10.1.102.64 whereas Intel-based Macs running Leopard are up to v 10.3.183.43 as of today's update). Therefore, you open yourself up to about 2 years worth of Flash player that you were previously protected from. The best thing to do is to update to the newest compatible Flash player and run Chrome with an Applescript app. In fact, making the applescript can often times be quicker than installing that obsolete version of Flash. THIS IS NOT A FIX, it's just a temporal 'patch' and I don't know how long will it work, since either MacOS X 10.5 or Chrome won't be updated anymore in this case.
This could make your system security decrease, because your flash pluggin won't be updated for a long time. Open TextEdit and copy-paste these lines: #!/bin/bash /Applications/Google Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google Chrome -allow-outdated-plugins & exit; This is a script that will run Chrome with a flag that makes it to obviate the outdated plugins. Now, save it into a file without extension. For example: 'chrome-flash' (without.txt or anything like that) Open your terminal and place into the directory you have that file. Now write this: chmod +x chrome-flash with this line we are adding execution permissions to that file. After this, you only have to double-click on it and Chrome won't bother you with this issue anymore. You will need to keep this file to open Chrome.
Suzido, 12:16 น. What is REALLY annoying is that now that I have dumped chrome because Google does not give rats ass about OS 10.5.8, and I finally found a browser that so far has not crashed (Camino) I have to effing read all the time the STUPID message from Google that my browser is outdated and won't work and I should Chome. So Google FORCED me to dump chrome and now BOMBARDS me with messages that I am an idiot for using another browser. Google - you can take your browser and put it where the sun don;t shine. If you dont' care and don't want to help us than STOP TELLING ME TO USE YOUR STUPID BROWSER WHICH DOESN'T WORK ANYWAY.
